Abstract: Multimedia communications, communication between the monitoring computers of a nuclear power plant or an aircraft etc. involve transmission of messages which have strict deadlines. These real-time messages are useful only if they could be transmitted before their deadline expires. The communication protocol required for such applications should be such as_t..®_pcov de--def knl-te—de-iays, — and —priori ty considerations. Development of such a protocol has been attempted in this dissertation. T1is protocol not only considers the real-time requirements of the tasks, but also the most urgent task in system is transmitted first. Collisions, which are a major cause for delays, have been avoided in this protocol. A simulation model has also been presented here. The results of the simulation prove to be satisfactory, i.e.. channel efficiencies upto 90% have been achieved, the delays remain constant at low and medium loads.
