Abstract: Computers are being increasingly used in almost every field and learning is no exception. Computer Aided Learning (CAL) is becoming very popular in developed countries. The aim of this work is to present the computer as a tool in the learning process. A software package 'Expert System For Generation and Evaluation of Question Papers' has been developed and is described in this report. The expert system, written in PROLOG, has a question bank divided into four sections with questions of . increasing toughness levels. It generates question papers by. selecting questions randomly from the bank. The user response is evaluated immediately and the marksheet is displayed at the end of the session. There are negative marks for wrong responses and time limits for each section. The pattern of the paper can be changed easily. For creating and updating the question bank, a software package was developed in FOXPRO. The package can be used on Local Area Network (LAN) also. The users should enter a valid user name and the password to access the question bank. The entire package is user-friendly and all help messages and guidlines to the user are displayed on the screen.
