Abstract: This dissertation report deals with the development of a Multi-Window Interactive Shell on the UNIX System. The Multi-Window Interactive Shell provides a interface, Window Manager to manipulate windows and User Shell to execute the commands. Window Manager provides a programming environment through a collection bf display windows each of which corresponds to a different context or task. It invokes a User Shell for each new window created to execute the user commands from that window. The user can manipulate the number of windows and-their size through Window Manager Commands.- The user may also also switch between these windows at his convenience. User Shell is a command interpreter that executes the commands given from the window of its invocation. These commands are subset of the standard UNIX shell "sh". It also provides some extra facilities like executing the previously typed commands etc. The Multi-Window Interactive Shell has been actually used and experimented by the designer on UNIX system (VT100 terminal). It provides an excellent working environment for the user to assist in program development itself.
