Abstract: A text editor is an essential computer software tool , which creates or modifies a text according to the need of users. _A screen editor (SE) on IBM compatible PC has been designed and implemented. C - language has been used for developing the package. SE is easy to use. It is menu driven which helps user to select the right option. At times , user is guided by error messages which are flashed on the screen. It is capable of editing and creating the text. Editing features include slow and fast cursor movements , line/word/string/block insert and delete , keyboard macros ( a keyword can be inserted by typing its corresponding keystroke defined in macro ). While editing , a menu bar appears on top of screen indicating current line no. , column no. ,name of the working file and mode (insert/overwrite). When user saves a file , "Save:" also appears on the right corner of the menu bar. The package can also load/save the text from/to mass memory devices.
