Abstract: In recent years there has been growing interest regarding the application of orthogonal transforms to digital signal processing. This is primarily due to the impact of high speed digital computers and rapid advances in digital technology. Orthogonal transforms have been used to process various types of data from speech, radar, biomedical sources and data from satellite television pictures. Digital representations of images isually require a very large number of bits.In many applications,it is important to consider techniques for representing an image or the information contained-in the image, with fewer bits.In the terminology of information theory this is referred to as source coding. Applications of source encoding in the field of image processing generally fall into one of the three categories
