Digital processing of an input sequence to generate an output sequence in accordance with a prescribed computational algorithm is commonly known as digital signal processing. This type of signal processing is implemented by means of either a special purpose signal processor or a general purpose digital computer. Advances in digital integrated circuit technology during the last two decades have made the digital processing technique economically practical and a more convenient method of signal processing. As a consequence of this continuing decrease in the cost of implementations and other advantages such as flexibility and reliabilityâ–º there has been a continual increase in the application of digital signal processing in many diverse fieldsen_US
