Abstract: The availability of inexpensive microprocessors and support chips has proven to.be a mixed blessing to the designers of digital and electronic systems that must respond immediately to external events. The general purpose real-time system is often developed when a series of related applications are anticipated on a given computer. A real-time executive has been developed and implemented on a personal computer to realise cost savings over a dedicated system and for ease, of development. The executive has been designed to handle upto 8 user applications. The support programs for user interface have been developed which help the, user in tailoring the executive to his needs. The executive can be extended to realise a full-fledged low cost process 'control system on personal cqmputers using some extra hardware and software.
