Title: SECOM : A PACKAGE FOR SECURE DATA COMMUNICATIONS ON PCs
Authors: Kaushik, B. K.
Keywords: ELECTRONICS AND COMPUTER ENGINEERING;SECOM;SECURE DATA COMMUNICATIONS;PCs
Issue Date: 1990
Abstract: The goal of the present work was to develop a software package for secure and reliable communication between the two PCs. To make the code much harder to prevent the passive attack of an intruder, a complex encoding algorithm has been developed by making use of data compression technique (Huffman coding) and conventional (double transposition) cryptographic technique. For file transfer between the two PCs, an algorithm for transmitting the encoded data in packets has been developed. Error detection/control procedures using checksum and stop-and-wait protocol have been incorporated to detect the active attack (modification, destruction or diversion of data) of the intruder over communication channel and for message authentication.
