Abstract: | Expert Systems employ human knowledge to solve problems that ordinarily require human intelligence. The knowledge of the expert human being is programmed into the computer and then the computer can be used as an expert (usually called Expert System or Knowledge Based System). This thesis addresses the problem of design, development and implementation of "ESIPT: Expert System for IBM PC Troubleshooting" IBM PC has been taken as a model. The knowledge about the faults of the IBM PC. and the suitable remedies have been programmed in GCLISP language, using production rules technique. A Forward chaining inference engine has been developed, which through on Input/Output module (a part of user interface) deduces the result of the problem put by the user. Other parts of user interface are Knowledge acquisition module and Explanation module Knowledge acquisition module provides the facility of modifying the knowledge base. Explanation module gives answers of the "HOW" and "WHY" queries of the user. Knowledge base can also be modified to some other model of PCs then it will work as an Expert Troubleshooter for that model of PC. |
