AN INTELLIGENT QUERY PROCESSING AND TEXT UNDERSTANDING SYSTEM: AN APPROACH

Abstract

Research in Natural Language Processing is concerned with making computers capable of using natural languages, making it easy to communicate with computers as it is with people. The Intelligent Query Prxo#essing and Text Understanding Systen, is a result of association accorded regarding the basic philosophy and depth of Text Understanding and Question Answering in English LWnguage. The various approaches to system development are based on Artificial Intelligence Techniques. The realizationreal of the system required the development of a strategy for modelling the process of understanding text and answering questions based on it. It uses a collection of facts and rules and other domain specific knowledge coupled with methods of applying those rules to make inferences. The selection of a proper rule is effected by the inference mechanism where Pattern Patching Technique Is utilized for processing the input text and query. The system accepts as input a comfortable but restricted subset of English which c:an be used to express a variety of relationships among object within the described application area, and answer queries relating to facts about these objects and relations" The system is capable of acquiring and maintatt iDg its knowledge base very gfficiently.
