Abstract: There are many conventional coding schemes but the motion compensated predictive coding scheme was proposed, a much better scheme. Large levels of compression can be achieved if one knows the exact trajectories traversed by the object. In this dissertation, two methods are used for estimation of translation for interfrome motion prediction. The first method uses simple frame difference algorithm and works well for smaller displacements, while the second method uses the pel recursive motion estimation technique and gives accurate results even for large displacements. Th s algorithm minimizes recursively the estimation error in translation. The performance of the two algorithms was obtained by computer simulation th'cioc interframe coders. The simulation results show that the pel recursive motion estima-tion is a more accurate method for obtaining an exact estimation of translation (motion vector).
