Abstract: This report gives the details of Digital Image Processing techniques using median filtering for en-hancing the image quality. Median. filtering is a non-linear technique of noise removal. with its additional feature of edge preservation. For illustrative purposes three different 64 x 64 (pixels) images (two two-tone and one thirty-two gray levels) have been considered. Conventional and histogram methods for computing running medians are used. For improvement thresholding is applied. Generalization of median filters through cascading and a combination of median and linear smoothner has been tried for further improvement.
