Abstract: Adaptive equalization using transversal filters is very important for reliable data transmission. These equa-ligers are, adapted using measurements made on the error at the output of the equalizer°. Several algorithms are available using which equalizers can be adapted. These however have two major defectsi. Their convergence may be limited by the channel characteristics, despite being. simple in implementation. Whereas faster algorithms are available, these tend to be quite complex. In this age of digitally implemented modems, it is important that simple but fast algorithms be found, especially in the light of the fact that the processing power available in such modems may be limited, because several other func-tions besides equalization have to be incorporated. In this work two such algorithms are studied by simula-tions. Each of these uses a different criterion. of optionality for adaptation. These algorithms have been compared with other popular algorithms in their class and their superiority brought out.
