This work is concerned with the design of a management information system (MIS) for University of Ro or ke e. The MIS package is provided as a suit of COBOL and CODASYL DBMS software, implemented on DEC-2050 system. There are three major categories of information which are provided by the system; (i) General information about any Department (ii) Information about staff in a Department (iii) Information about students in a course. A software module has also been developed for the sanction of different types of leave to the staff. Provision has been made to update and modify the records when required. The MIS package developed is thoroughly interactive and menu-driven-. Information, both in summarised and detailed form, can be obtained just by pressing the codes presented by the menu. Another feature of this MIS is that it can support on-line transactions i.e. using a centralised data base, the management can retrieve information from the data base at the same time when data is being stored at some other location. Thus, the management can have access to the most recent information and then make decisions. When the MIS is used, the management will be able to take quick decisions which may not be possible due to nonavailability of a file or a clerk etc. and thus save a precious amount of time.en_US
