Abstract: In the last decade, the evolvement of intelligent tutoring systems in educational environment has been seen. The intelligent tutoring system is yielded as a result of inclusion of artificial intelligence techniques in conven-tional tutoring systems. An intelligent tutoring system mimics the role of human tutor i.e. possesses many human skills. In this dissertation, the basic philosophy of inte-iligent tutoring system is presented. The tutoring systems for botanical classification, LISP language, . and general knowledge are illustrated. These tutoring systems will create a 'reactive' environment in which a student , can learn by trying his own ideas rather than by instruct ion. They will also pr vide useful information to a Student. The main goal to develop these tutoring systems is to establish one to one relationship to a student with an expert who helps the student to create, experiment with and debug his own ideas.
