Lasing action takes place in a medium in which 'population inversion' Is easily achieved and which is made to act as a resonator for supporting oscilla-tions of a particular frequency. Thus the generation of these radiation require (1) an active medium in the form of a resonator in which population inversion can be obtained, (2) a pumping source which may provide enough energy to the active medium for the attainment of population inversion. This work comprises a theoretical study of 'Solid State Lasers' and the Q-switching techniques used for high power pulse generation. A unit is deigned and fabricated for 'Ruby Laseren_US
