The problem of the design of. recursive digital filters in time..domein' is considered in this dissertation. Briefly stated, the problem is to design a digital filter which has a unit impulse response either equal or appro.. timate in some sense to a desired discrete impulse res-ponse over any specified range. A new synthesis tech nic ae is developed for such design. It has the adv nItage that more samples of the a discrete impulse response, if desired, can be realized using the proposed algorithm, by adding more blocks to the designed filter without affecting the design of earlier blocks. The problems concerning exact and approximate realization in some sense and stability of such filters are also discussed. The overall filter is shown to be stable if the °individual blocks are chosen to be stable. The proposed techrdque is illustrated with the help of an example. Computer program and results are also given. Some further problems are also suggested for investigatic n* the study of iicb will add to the exist-ing results concerning digital filter design.en_US
