Abstract: Many applications need processing speed which cannot be achieved by a single processing element. This requires concurrent processing where a number of .processing elements interact with slave units to meet the demand. An inter-connection network (ICN) help performs this operation. In this dissertation the problem of reliability evaluation of an interconnection network is studied. First, it has been shown that Gamma network, an ICN, behaves like a k-out-of-n: G system. Note that this system is good iff k units out of n units are operating. Thus, the problem of reliability evaluation of an ICN reduces to that required for k-out--of-n G system. A study has been made in this direction too. Two recursive algorithms [ 12,13 j are considered and the programs using pascal have been developed and run over DEC-20 for them. A comparision is made consi-~ daring their execution time and memory requirement for a number of problems. These algorithms are also studied in terms of number of additions and multiplications required for a typical 4-rout-of--7. G system. In the last, several points are considered that can be taken up for future studies. Appendix lists the programs.
