Abstract: | The design of an adequate data structure and its development is an important factor in determining the efficiency of almost all application programs. The design of an effecient data structure is an essential necessity of computer graphics, where a large amount of data has to be handled. Simple manipulations on the data structures may result in an entirely different figure being displayed on the screen. In this study, a simple data structure has been developed for a District cum Tehsil Information System. The array type of data structures though easy to access are very difficult to be manipulated. As computer graphics applications naed a great manipulation of data, so array type of data structure is not appropriate for graphics applications. K7..~ping in view the limitations of arrays, the complex data structure that is Hierarchical generalised List has been developed for some of the 3_D objects using the 2-D primitives. This structure makes use of the pointers, and so it can be easily manipulated. Any insertion or deletion of the data items require only pointers to b: adjusted. Also in this the components or the primitives making up the figure are arranged hierarchically, so the different componentE can be manipulated separately also. |
