Abstract: Delta Modulation systems are specialized derivatives of the conventional pulse code modulation. So th.e historical review in Chapter— I deals only how normal PCM come to be pre-fered over analog systems and how and when it developed into these delta modulation systems. Chapter II introduces the va-rious existing PCM and delta modulation systems. There S/N characterstics were also discussed. Since the continuous ada-ptive exponential delta modulation system is equivalent to a linear delta.modulation into which a syllabic companding has been introduced, so Chapter III covers the various companding schemes and there use in delta modulation systems. Chapter IV discusses the various types of adaptive delta modulation sys-tems. Relations for various characteristics of the continuous adaptive exponential delta modulation system, such as compre-ssion characterstic, companding improvement and signal to noise ratio were arrived at in the same 6h.apter. The SA vs sampling frequency and the overload characteristic were studied ih-, the chapter V. This chapter also covers the design and practical setup of th.e present system.
