Abstract: The objective of thesis is to describe the basic principle and techniques underlying the design of colour television receiver system. The emphasis is on presenting in an integrated manner the general principles and tech-niques and not merely describing a set television systems. In order that presentation be coherent, the i.T.T. PAL system has been chosen which could act as a vehicle to carry various concepts. Though it is quite a popular kit several other kits could have proved to be as good as I.T.T.. for our task. Every effort has been made to present the matter in a way *hachis logical and easy to follow. Wherever possible the subject matter under discussion has been reinforced by use of diagrams which illustrate the principle with clarity where words alone often fail to achieve. The aim is to analyse the system from design point of view without going into complex mathematical concepts. In chapter 1, the various development that took place in the past in colour television receiver have been out-lined. While discussing ;chapter 2, in the beginning, we have outlined the principle of PAL colour television receiver, and a brief discussion has been made as three colour trans-mission systems, and composite video signal of the PAL system. We have also given some information about various receiver display devices or CRTs and arrangements associated with them for their proper operation in the later part of the chapter. Chapter 3 is divided into five major sections, on the basis of the various receiver sections. Comprehensive, design criteria for each of these sections has been pro-posed in the beginning of the section. Next, we have dis-cussed each section analytically and later on typical circuits for these sections have been analysed in detail. We would like to mention, that the complete technical specifications have not been given for the system under discussion. It is quite possible, when designing an actual system, work will have to be suppr, rted by relevant manuals and D.A.T.A. books related to the colour television system being used.
