Issue Date: 1985
Abstract: This dissertation deals with Knowledge-Based System with particular emphasis on knowledge repre-sentation and organization. A review of various approaches to these issues is made. In particular, we consider logic —based, semantic network, frame—based, patter —irxvoked programs. Various control strategies like baoktracking, graph—searching are also discussed. An improvement to conventional semantic network is suggested. In the second phase of the work an experimental expert system is constructed. The system uses predicate logic for declarative knowledge representation and procedural knowledge is represented as IF—THEN rules. Design. of various parts of the system and its implementation in LISP on BBC microcomputer are described in the dissertation. Finally, directions for further work in this field are given.
