Abstract: An integrated coding and modulation approach for digital transmission over a Rayleigh fading channel is presented. The fundamental characteristics of fading and performance of several diversity schemes and coding techni-ques have been discussed. Emphasis is on the use of constant weight codes for constructing equal energy waveforms for transmission over Rayleigh fading channel. Maximum likeli-hood decoding algorithm is applied to enable efficient decoding of concatenated code, formed from RS[9,8] code and H(20,5) code. Computer simulation results show the increase in performance of integrated coding and modulation system in comparison with conventional diversity schemes and several coding techniques.
