Abstract: In this dissertation, the importance of hardware description languages in designing a digital system is discussed first. One such language viz., A Hardware Programming Language (AHPL) with the syntax and semantics of its various statements is presented. A discussion is also made for the hardware compiler that help simulate digital machine. A computer program in BASIC has been written to translate the statements of the symbolic design language, AHPL, into Boolean on-arrays for each of the declared variables. A. listing of the program along with its detailed comments is included in the Appendix A. The designed program has been implemented on DEC-2050 system. Examples illustrate the various aspects of it
