Abstract: Translator is a software package which is used to translate a high level language (HLL) program into an assembly language program or another HLL program. A compiler, on the other hand, translates the HLL program into the machine language program. The reason for writing a translator and not.a compiler is the portability and the ease of implementation. Another reason is that it can beneficially be used with small computers, whereas a compiler will invariably require large memory space which may not always be available with the type of computer in hand. In this dissertation an attempt has been made to design and implement a PASCAL to FORTRAN translator. The Pascal pro-grams are translated into FORTRAN-IV because it is supported by most of the systems. The translatrr is designed adopting the modular approach so that any procedure can be tested and modified without changing the main program. The program is written in ALGOL-60 and implemented- on DBC-2050 Computer System installed in University of Roorkee.
