Abstract: | In this dissertation, an attempt has been made towards ''LAN design and implementation''. The various design aspects of local area networks such as topology, accessing techniques, transmission technology, signalling techniques are discussed first. A hardware solution is also included. Although, the reference has been made for Intel chips only ; a number of different venders have also started supporting important functions of local area network in chip form. The chips considered are LCC (Local Communication Controller) and ESI (Ethernet Serial Interface) . Second, different protocol modelling and validation techniques are discussed. The valida-tion of CCITT X.21 and alternating bit protocol has been included. The scheme utilizes petrinet model and tests live-ness and safeness properties of these two protocols. The appendices include details of some of the relevant information and steps of validation scheme. |
