W'aveguides partially filled with dielectric have been studied but only the simple composite structures have been analysed exactly. The problem may be solved by considering the fields in the wave-guide inserting the various boundry conditions, and thus finding the solutions of Maxwell's equations. An alternative method of analysis is to consider the propagating wave as composed of two plane waves tra-veiling at an angle with respect to the guide axis and finding the condition that a field composed of a combination of these two waves should vanish at the guide walls. This method of superposition of elemental Raves has been employed for parallel plate and rectangular waveguides.en_US
