dc.description.abstractHigh--definition television (HDTV) will be most required in near future by the ever advancing society• Proposed HDTV system is associated with the advent of larger, high-brightness and sharper display equipment,, Picture quality of the present day television systems suffers in many ways and further enhancement to achieve picture duality comparable to motion picture is not possible, unless new standards for TV picture production and transmission are adopted• riihile HDTV system is consi-dered capable of producing high-resolution colour pictures with highr--fidelity, on the other hand it poses serious problems due to its non-compatibility with existing tele.- vision receiver. We have studied the proposed HDTV stand-ards and explored a suitable solution to achieve compati --bil_' ty with conventional 625 line PAL TV receiver. For such a system, broadcasting considerations are also dis-cussed.en_US
