dc.description.abstract1.1. Our time is the time of automation. The field of automation has grown tremendously in the last few deeadea. Looking a little ahead further development of automation will facilitate consi. -derably the activities of man, even in the field of mental labour and free him from numerous monotonous ( computations and others ) operations. The economy, accuracy, and reliability of guidance of controlled processes are becoming the main tasks of automation. The opening up of new fields is in sight thich would be unthinkable without automation and remote control. In many cases combinations of hydraulics, phneumatic, mechanical and. electrical components were required to meet the required perfor- -mance, The performance specifications needed that the components used must give an output within some tolerable range.. Hence the testing procedure for systems and components have been developed. There are various methods for analysing systems which lead to their theoretical investigations. Finally the system has to be tested for the specified performance. 1.2. To ensure a satisfactory performance, accuracy and to mini'. '.mise testing time, systematic testing procedure becomes a necessity. The steps in testing may be written as:'. (a) Planning the tests; (b) Selecting the test equipment; (a) Making the test; and (d) Analysing the accorded data. 1.2.1.(a) It mainly depends on the purpose of the test. The pre- -liminary stage of any system-analysis is to develope a block diagram. This diagram helps in understanding the problem from inside.en_US
