The present research studies the relation between loading and corrosion in reinforcing steel in reinforced concrete elements. Beam specimens of size l00mmx l50mmx 1200 mm were cast using three difi rent normal and high strength concrete mixes, After 45 days of moist curing, these beams were subjected to fur point bearding at different loading levels and cyclic loading. After load tests, Ponds were consttocted on the tension side of these beams subjected to loading, and was subjected to pondiog using 59/0 NaCl solution. Half cell potential readings were tsken to monitor the time taken for cornosion initiation. After corrosion initiation, an external current was applied to tlr e specimens to accelerate the corrosion process. The dal loading capacity of bwms was found at the and of the durability exposure test. The results indicate that loading histoi y and loading levels have significant effects on both cormsion initiation and corrosion propagation. The results also showed that both corrosion initiation and propagation rates also depended on the type of concrete used.en_US
