dc.description.abstract | In the present project an easy, cost and energy effective, non-toxic, rapid, straight forward, non-hydrolytic and a novel one-pot reaction for the synthesis of monodisperse silver nanoparticles has been reported. Thermal decomposition of silver acetate in a high boiling point solvent such as diphenyl ether in the presence of ligands, oleic acid and oleylamine leads to metallic silver nanoparticles. The silver nanoparticles were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), field emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM), energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDXA), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), selected area electron diffraction (SAED) and UV-visible spectroscopy. The effect of varying the concentrations of the ligands and also the effect of aging the organosol solution of silver nanoparticles were studied. The concentration of ligand oleylamine was found to affect the morphology of the nanoparticles.
