Remote sensors were developed and have been used extensively world over aircraft and space platforms. The AWiFS is one such camera, launched onboard using Resourcesat-1 satellite by ISRO in 2003. This sensor has many advance features like wide swath width that is used for covering a very large area for regional mapping purpose, good radiometric resolution etc. The major objective of this dissertation is to investigate the geometric properties of AWiFS image. The comparison of rectification, orthorectification and other techniques used for geometric evaluation of AWiFS image and their comparative analysis is also included in the present study. The study has been done with the help of ERDAS Imagine version 8.6 and ENVI version 4.2. J The geometric properties of AWiFS images have been compared through different mapping software. The positive and negative inclination angle effects of AWiFS images are also compared. The RMS errors have been calculated and compared for different settings. The current work may serve as a baseline for geometric analysis of AWiFS image with the help of normal rectification and orthorectification techniqueen_US
