Abstract: With a variety of developments in construction industry, there is greater demand for reinforced concrete structures. This requires faster modeling and analysis, rapid design, detailing and drafting. The increased availability of computers in design offices, time hound completion of -projects to overcome cost escalation, economy and greater requirements of engineering productivity has created the need for computer aided design and drafting (CADD) to be applied in the field of civil engineering especially for the routine design, detailing and drafting of R.C. structures. There are various programs available which deal with the analysis part, but very few are available for design purpose, out of which only a few of them are supported with graphics facility and that too have a number of limitations. The reason for this was lack of awareness about the graphics aspect of computer programming and also the lack of suitable software for graphics. But now, the picture is altogether different and a constant need to develop graphics software that enables the potential of already available software to be harnessed, has been realized. It has been experienced that about three-fourth of the time of projects planning goes in to the preparation ' and co-ordination of working drawings, specifications and schedules which are repetitive in nature. Therefore economy can be greatly affected by minimizing this time through judicious use of computers. The present dissertation work consists of the development of a computer aided design and drafting of reinforced concrete chimney. Computer language C++ has been used for the development of software. Usefulness of the proposed CAD package has been demonstrated by taking three different examples.
