Title: A RATIONAL APPROACH TO STABLE CHANNEL DESIGN

Issue Date: 1984
Abstract: The existing methods of designing stable channels do not generally consider the sediment load as a variable. also design procedures account-ing for varying discharge rather than a design discharge or a dominant discharge are rare. Therefore, it was thought desirable to take these variables in the design directly into account. A well defined computational scheme together with the computer program is developed on the premise that the slope and the cross section adopted should be such that the channel returns to the original conditions after a year's running under the varying sediment load and water discharges. The method is illustrated consilap.. ing the case of the Upper Ganga Canal.
