Abstract: Three dimensional tests were performed on a square ' 20 cm x 20 cm) surface footing resting or a reinforced earth slab, and subjected to vertical central and one way eccentric load. The reinforcements used were strips of h`':;ha.di cloth and bamboo. The study was carried cut on cohesicnless soil placed at a density of 1.6 gm/cc using the rainfall method. Eccentricity was varied from 0.1B to 0.3B. Tortyeight tests were performed. The distance of the first reinforcing layer from the base of footing u) was varied. in each test, loads9 settlements and tilts were measured. Computations and plots were made and conclusions were drawn giving the effect of reinforcement and eccentricity of load on the bearing capacity and settlement characteristics of the footings. In addition to this non-dimensional correlatiaas were also obtained to predict the settlement of eccentrically loaded footings resting on reinforced earth slabs. Observed data was, compared with the results of previous investigators and a reasonable agreement was found between the two. pertinent review of the literature on the topic has been included.
