Issue Date: 1984
Abstract: The annual runoff from Catchments is one of the important informations needed for the planning of the water resources projects. In many cases long term data of annual runoff are not available at a particular site of interest. However the meteorological data such as the annual rainfall and average annual temperature and the information regarding-catchment characteristics are generally available. Keeping this in view, in present study the avail--able data from several Indian Catchments have been used to verify the existing relationships for annual runoff given by Khosla, Panchang, Gulati and Sehgal and Turc. These equations are found to give unsatisfactory results. Therefore a fresh analysis of data from 26 catchments spread over various parts of India has been carried out. Using the multiple regression approach, relationships have been proposed for estimation of the annual runoff from catchments. A procedure for estimating the annual runoff from catchments having scarce data as also been suggested.
