Abstract: In the recent years analytical photogrammetrie techniques have gained Prominence in various types of applications. One important step in analytical data reduction methods is the calibration data in the form of space resection and orientation matrix, for which a number of methods are available. These methods have - l varying requirement of ground control and give varying degree of accuracy. In the present investigation, three methods have been_ selected with _ the object to establish• the suitability of one method over the other from the point of view of requirement of number of points, achieve- able accuracy for different terrain type and using different focal length cameras. For this investigation, photograms from blocks of mathematical photogram, developed by Late Dr. H.L. Oswal, have been selected for which abso-lute data is knowni The results show that 4 points are enough to get the desired accuracy. More number of points do not improve much on the accuracy in any of the methods. On comparison, . the method based on equating the cosine formed in the object space and the image space, -developed by Veress and Tiwari, has been found to be the best, as compared to other methods investigated, both from the point- of view of accuracy and economy.
