Multistoreyed buildings are going to come up in urban centres at faster speed than before because of the combined effect of urbanisation,. industrialisation and overall development programme. The world wide response has brought two major considerations in architectural planning and design of multi—storeyed office buildings. Firstly, is the element of building services and equipment, demanding a sizable percentage of space and often accounting for almost half of the construction budget. Further more it is increasing with rising living standards and development,of technol.pgy . Secondly, the building design team has devoloped into an interdisciplinary venture to encompas aspects of different specializations ie structural engg:, public health engg, transportation engg, electrical engg etc. The objective of this study is to laydown guide lines for architects/planners and engineers to optimize different inputs for selected building services namely vertical movement, air conditioning and ventilation, plumbing, fire fighting, electrical and telephones. An approach to integrated service design to achieve maximum efficiency and economy in architectural planning and design has been outlined, To achieve the above objective four case studies of selected multistoreyed office buildings in Bombay were conducted.. These were analysed further on comparative basis to identify priorities to be given to various building services in architectural planning and design.en_US
