Issue Date: 1982
Abstract: For the slope stability analysis of a simple homogeneous dam, a closed form implicit equation for factor of safety has been obtained. Being a closed form equation it does not require determination of optimum slice width. Iterative procedure has been found to yield factor of safety in a few cycles. Vxying the trial slip circles through a grid search algorithm the minimum factor of safety has been found. Obtaining results for wide variety of data general conclusions have been drawn and an empirical equation for factor of safety for a simple homogeneous dam with no pore water pressure has been obtained.
