Sub surface water of river confined in the first aquifer is on ' of the pro ci,ous sour'cec of safo and potable watt r. Vertical wells constructed near a surface source draw its water by induced infiltration. 10 I. open area in the walls of a dug well increases its discharge by 15 to 45% depending upon the boundry conditions.- Collector wells ' located in aquifer of good permeability connected to a surface water source with ample water normally yields sufficient discharge. The discharge of collector well with laterals is directly proportional to. the length •of laterals, draw—down and permeability of the aquifer. It also increases with increase in the diameter of the latexa 1, increase in spacing between laterals and decrease in their depth below river bed. The slow movement of water towards the well, the induced infiltration through the depth of aquifer results into better quality of water in infiltration wells in comparison of surface water.en_US
