Abstract: Anchor foundations are those substructures which have to be designed to resist pull put forces. An attempt has been made in this disser tat ion. to study the behaviour of plate anchor in co he s ive so il . Tests were conducted on model anchors of width 50 cm and length to width ratios 1, 2, 3 and 6. Embedment ratios (D/B) were 1, 2 and 4. During test, the load increment was 1/2 kg. Observations were taken till the rate of displacement was less than 0.02 mm/minute. Loading was continued till the total displacement was 10'/. or more of the width of the anchor plate. pressure V/s deformation. curves were plotted from the test results. Failure pressure is defined as the pressure at which the pressure deformation curve passes into a steep straight tangent. Pressure corresponding to ,4/. and 5'/. strains were also obtained. The effect of embedment ratio, length to width ratio, and shape on pressure intensities were investigated. Displacements of the anchors for different stress levels were also studied, Results were compared with analytical work of the previous investigators,
