Issue Date: 1979
Abstract: Extensive work has been done on development of the mud plasters but these could not be popular in villages were because plasters / stabilized by A' chemicals/stabilizers, which are not available locally. Hence there was need for research on development of mud plaster out of locally available materials only. The basic questions for study are : (1) Which is the test type of straw ? (2) that size of straw should be used ? (3) What optimum percentage of straw should be used ? (4) Whether cow dung can also be used as an ingredient for mud plastering ? (5) What sho ld be the rotting period ? The study of these factors requireisystematic investigation of various engineering properties of mud plasters. Three types of strawsi.e. Wheat, Mango leaves and Rice paddy sk-;7.b.,5 were used in this study and the effect of type of straw, size of straw, percentage of straw, percentage of cow dung and rotting period were studied by determining Liquid Limit, Plastic Limit and Shrinkage Limit on different mixtures of soil, straw and cow dung.
