Purling is a common feature of sewerage. The location of pumping station is usually decided by engineering judgement. In the present study a rational method for location of pumping station on a main sewer has been evolved which minimises the overall cost of the system. It has been found that pumping constitutes a major portion of sewerage and it is highly sensitive to system parameters.en_US
