Issue Date: 1976
Abstract: The object of limit state design is to design a structure which is serviceable under the expected working loads and unlikely to collapse due to unusual loads. We must, therefoe design the structure for the conditions which correspond to loss of serviceability and collapse. Limit states are just those conditions conditioneg that is, those stractur&LI coz&ttions for Which the Otruoture is no longer Lit, for the purpose for which it is intended.. The 'chapter I is devoted to the general introduction of the limit state design and various limit states, Chapte'r 11 deals with the limit analysis of collapse loads. Computer analysis has been done for obtaining the' moment coetIs* elastically using finite difference method for various possible combinations of edge conditions of a slab, either simply supported. or fixed. A quite exhaustive table has been prepared which 'reflects a comparision betw een moment ooeff a. obtained from various approaches 'includ-ing elastic and plastic theories, Chapter, III deals with the craon in two-sway concrete slabs and chapter IV deals with anqthr limit state,i.e. deflection. Both the chapters embody the latest information so far available citing the national codes. The method of limit state design has been illustrated by completely solving a ,elab example with. various approac4es in chapter V.
