Abstract: There are thousand of potential corrosion and scale problems in every water supply system. The economic loss ,'caused by corrosion as well as scale formation is severe. Such losses can be avoided by water stablization. Various saturation indices indicate the stabilization state of raw water. Among the various indices, CaCO3 precipitation potential (CCPP) is the best suited index in the entire range of p11 values. CCPP can also be the index which can predict the saturation state of treated water. CCPP is calculated by (i) using C.L. diagram and (ii) analytical procedure. It can be experimentally determined by marble test. Lime or carbon dioxide requirement to obtain stable water is determined by trial and error using C.L. diagram or analytical procedure based on a series of water, carbonic acid and CaCO3 equilibria. The entire procedure is quite tedious.. With this in view it was thought to develop a Fortran Computer program for direct determination of lime and carbon dioxide to control corrosion and scale formation in water sypply system. The work presented herein includes a program• based on analytical procedure. The effect of temperature and ionic strength have also been incorporated. The state of water i.e. corrosive, scale forming or stable given as CCPP value along with lime or coarbon dioxide requirement form the output statement. These results have been verified by marble test, in the laboratory i.. and C.L. diagrams. 0
