The most widely used Haz en-William' s formula in environmental engineering practice has been discussed, its limitations listed and errors quantified, A modified Hazen Williams formula, has been derived for exact estimation of velocity and frictional resistance in pipes used for water supply and waste water collection, The effect of viscosity and age on the carrying capacity of pipes have also been discussed and design recommendations listed. The use of the modified formula, or the nomograph (or the slide rule) thereof obviated the limitations of the Hazen Williams' formula„en_US
