Abstract: The thesis presents the system optimization of reinforced concrete building frames at ultimate load. An 'office building has been considered as a system, with architectural and structural constfaints. The archi-tectural considerations have been studied in detail to arrive at a certain range of frame epacin s in which these considerations are satisfied. From structural consideration the ratio of optimal volume of steel to covered area is found. The solution arrived at is for an optimal frame spacing with optimum amount of reinforcing steel. Linear programming has been eucce-sefu .ly employed to achieve optimisation.
