Abstract: There exists an unbridgeable gap between the housing shortage and housing supply in rural areas. In spite of the fact that 30 per ceuc of Indi<<'s population lives in rural areas, only now a much needed attention is being paid to rural housings In spite of free land being given to the landless, the he .sin-; problem is complex due to shortage of permanent building material, paucity of finances and technically retarded state of construction. Simultaneously as o, result of different economic progr , s es and developments, the living concepts of the rural Classes are changing vei77 ra.ntnidly. Ibis calls for a systematic study of the complete problem, its Banc 1ysIS cincl development of a salt, able technology. An attempt is made in the present study to find, a viable and feasible solution to the problem of providing houses to the landless. Burnt bricks, being most commonly available in rural areas, have boon adopted. The s b dy includes _l. brief review of the housing problem, space requirements for various functions, de;relo-, me_ b of technolocgr and 'sodul_ar coordination, structural analysis and its conformation br test results, optimisation of sijaces and components, and t in,a1l r, the conclusions and recommendations.
