dc.description.abstract | Safety and economy are the two important oonsiderationa for engineering design. With, the advent of digital computers and developing of mathematical programming methods, the new techniques of optimization are applied to the engineering design. Th the present study# three cases of rigid frames• are analysed. These frames have wide application in . indus trial buildings , workshops, sheds etc. The configuration of the frames is fixed and dimensioning of components Is varied within the boundary of feasibility, In the present work I the choice of objective function has been taken F as the minimization of volume of steel* Moment of inertia of beam and column sections are ehosen as. design variables,, The constraints have been Imposed on maximum stress and deflection.* Since the elastic design of steel structure depends upon many sectional properties other than moment of inertia, the relationship has been established among variables. The. 4 ; relations indicate nonlinear relation with the design variable.. So the nonlinear programming. problem (NLP) has been solved to seek the optimum solution. | en_US |
