Issue Date: 1976
Abstract: Conventional method of design for wastewater collection system results in the overdesign of the system q thus resulting in wastage of limited public funds. In the recent past some work on optimization of the wastewater collection system has been carried out but no efficient algorithm has been developed as yet. The present work has been carried out to achieve this. Nonlinear programming approach has been used. The methods tried are Univariate2 Gradient and Powell's with interior penalty function. The cost function was formulated based on the data froth Military Engineering Services. The decision variables are the diameter and the average depth of excavation of a sewer. A parametric study has also been carried out to study the sensitivity of cost function with the two variables i.e. diameter and average depth of excavation of a sewer.
